How long does it take to scan a typical home?
On average, it takes about 30-45 minutes to scan 1,000 sq.ft., so a typical 2,000 sq.ft. home can be scanned in about 60 to 90 minutes.
Is there a limit to the number of Scans in a Space?
Spaces are currently limited to a maximum of 200 scans.
How large of an area can be scanned?
For residential properties, 200 scans is sufficient to build Spaces up to approximately 10,000 square feet. The exact square footage will vary depending on the layout of the property and furniture.
Yes! 3D Camera can capture exterior spaces with 360° Views. 360° Views are spherical 2D panoramic images that users can view up, down, and all around. They can be accessed directly from your 3D tour, but are not aligned with the rest of your 3D model. Because direct sunlight can interfere with 3D data collection, we recommend using 360° Views for outdoor or sunny areas.
Is special lighting required?
Because we use HDR (high dynamic range) photography to balance dark and light areas of an image, no special lighting or lighting equipment is required. However, direct sunlight can interfere with data collection from the sensor, so we suggest avoiding direct sunlight when possible.

3D camera that is designed to scan the interior of homes, condos or any other indoor space. The software then compiles all of the still images together and creates a virtual tour of the home that actually allows you to walk through the home yourself. You can look up and down, left and right, move forward, backward, and so on. It allows consumers the ability to virtually tour a property in 3-D from anywhere in the world from their computers, tablets, or even smartphones. This technology provides faster and more effective marketing for selling clients, and offers another tool for showing property listings to clients who are interested in buying a home, especially to those who are not living in Hawaii. For overseas buyers and investors, this is perfect because they wont need to go look at the house in person to get a first impression.
Clients who are selling their properties will appreciate that we have the ability to produce amazingly accurate home tours and the ability to access, share and distribute those tours at any time. Those clients who are interested in purchasing a home are more likely to view a property, visit a property, make an offer and ultimately purchase a property that uses Matterport to market itself. Traditional 2D photographs and video simply can not compare to the realistic and immersive experience you get when viewing the property in 3D.
These 3D virtual tours could be an advantage for builders completing new construction, allowing the builder or agent to continue to show the home and provide examples of their work even after the house has been sold – without inconveniencing the current owners. Overseas clients can keep tabs on the progress of the construction of their new property. It gives potential buyers a feel for the layout of property, which they can share with friends and family online. This technology could cut down on time that sellers need to be out of the home, and buyers’ time spent in the car.
Matterport 3D scans are a true virtual experience that shows an accurate view of your accommodations and amenities and doesn’t allow customers to get mislead by creative 2D photography shots. Ensure that your customers’ expectations are realistic and avoid unnecessary complaints and unfair bad reviews on social media. In addition to providing faster and more bookings for the rental properties it also eliminates the need for clients to make a visit before making their final decision. Another advantage to this technology is that it allows your company to pay for 1 scan on a unit and continue to use the same video to market the property in the future. This can dramatically reduce your costs for advertising and allow you to invest in other aspects of your business.
We can allow renters to view any of your available listings from anywhere in the world. That’s especially valuable in a place like Hawaii, where so many rental units are being occupied by residents and students coming from overseas. This technology will also help to save an incredible amount of time for the Property Manager, with some reporting that they spend up to 60% less time than they previously did scheduling viewings for available units. In addition, those who did schedule a tour of the property after viewing the 3D video were much more likely to rent the unit. According to analytics, renters are more likely to email an agent and to call an agent about a property listing they’ve seen if it includes a 3D Showcase.
Statistics have shown that using Matterport results in more real estate listings. If using this camera results in 1 more listing per year because you’re using this technology on your listed homes…that’s a very healthy return on investment. But imagine if you were to get 3-5 more listings per year or more because you were one of the first to utilize this technology that will soon be the standard in the industry.
